Mission: To create a community-wide culture of awareness and action in the prevention, treatment and recovery of substance use disorders.
Vision: A substance use disorder free Grand Traverse County (SUD free GTC)
About Us:
The Grand Traverse Addiction & Recovery Council, (formerly the Grand Traverse County Drug Free Coalition) began meeting in early 2015 after Judge Bob Cooney called community leaders together to address the opioid epidemic. Today the coalition is made up of experts from various sectors of the community including: law enforcement, the medical community, schools, treatment facilities, tribal members, religious groups, youth, parents and families.
In October of 2017, the coalition received a grant from Northern Michigan Regional Entity (NMRE) to fund a full time coordinator, an epidemiologist to provide the coalition with local data, and three Youth Engagement Liaisons to facilitate prevention programs in the county’s high schools. The coalition has recently adopted by-laws and established its executive committee. Future plans also include applying for a Drug Free Communities Grant and hosting events to provide education and raise awareness to the community.

Mission: To compassionately assist individuals and families affected by substance use disorder.
Vision: Healthy communities that view addiction as a disease and treat those who suffer from it with respect and compassion.
About Us:
Face Addiction Now, formerly Families Against Narcotics (FAN), was created in response to a heartfelt community gathering in 2007, following the tragic loss of two young people to heroin in the close-knit town of Fraser, Michigan. The community faced 30 heroin-related overdoses that year, each one a heartbreaking loss. Determined to make a difference, a group of dedicated individuals came together to form FAN, aiming to bring hope and support to those affected.
In a show of solidarity, Christ United Methodist Church opened its doors and welcomed nearly 100 people to the first meeting. The basement was filled with grieving families, compassionate law enforcement, supportive community leaders, and individuals working towards recovery. Together, they shared their pain, asked tough questions, and vowed to support each other. This gathering marked the beginning of a powerful community effort to heal and address the challenges of substance use, creating a network of care and hope for the future.
As part of our ongoing commitment to broadening our impact and support, we have since rebranded as Face Addiction Now. This change reflects our expanded mission to serve as a statewide nonprofit organization in Michigan, offering recovery services to individuals regardless of their insurance status or location.

Mission: The Substance Free Coalition of Northwest Michigan (SFC) is partnering with agencies and organizations throughout the five-county area of Northwest Michigan to end the opioid epidemic in our communities. Because prescription opioids are so highly addictive, our efforts are focused on prevention of opioid use whenever possible.
Vision: A nation free of narcotic addiction.
