INDEPTH
Intervention for Nicotine Dependence: Education, Prevention, Tobacco and Health
Catholic Human Services/Up North Prevention offers INDEPTH (Intervention for Nicotine Dependence: Education, Prevention, Tobacco, and Health) free of charge for students/youth who have demonstrated high-risk behavior related to nicotine products. INDEPTH, a program of the American Lung Association, is an evidence-based, forward-thinking alternative to suspension or citation for tobacco and e-cigarette use.

About 13 of every 100 middle school students and 31 of every 100 high school students reported current use of nicotine products, including e-cigarettes. The number of middle and high school students vaping more than doubled from 2017 to 2018, prompting the U.S. Surgeon General to say that this new behavior is an ‘epidemic.’

This interactive program teaches teens ages 13-18 about nicotine dependence, establishing healthy alternatives, and making the change to be free of all nicotine products. The 3.5-hour program is offered either one-on-one or in a group setting, by a trained facilitator and can be in person or virtual.
