Alcona students get lessons in team building and resiliency skills.

Updated: Oct 10, 2023

With the help of AHS coaches Reed Leeseberg, Scott Reynolds and Jason Stevens, Up North Prevention staff and E-sports coach Les Thomas helps students to form Alcona Electric Tigers E-sports team, the first of its kind in the area. While the kids are busy playing video games, they’re also learning how to deal with adversity, function on a team, and support each other in a space that is uniquely theirs. According to Alcona Schools Superintendent, Dan O’Connor, this is exciting for a long list of reasons, but most importantly, inclusion.

“This is exciting for the district as it appeals to a new segment of our student body. The students involved aren’t necessarily active in other extracurricular activities, so to bring them together in a team environment is good for them, and good for our school.”
