Hillman Students Receive 4th Place in the Strive For A Safer Drive Campaign

The Hillman Students Leading Students (SLS) recently received recognition for taking 4th Place in the 2023-2024 Strive For A Safer Drive Campaign.  Students were presented with a plaque and then participated in the Ford Driving Skills for Life hands-on clinic.  This clinic helps newly licensed drivers (teens with a permit or license) improve their skills in four key areas that are critical factors in the majority of vehicle crashes, including: Hazard Recognition, Vehicle Handling, Speed and Space Management. There was also a comprehensive section on Distracted and Impaired Driving and Safety in Mobility.

This half day course is intended for newly licensed drivers to practice these skills in a safe, controlled environment, with professional instructors sitting next to them. This clinic is the next step beyond traditional driver education courses and a valuable addition to the learning process.  There was also an information session for parents.

These students had a blast.  You can tell by the smiles on their faces. When asked what their take away from today was this was some of their responses:

“I was able to work on controlling myself and my vehicle in a safe and controlled environment. I enjoyed having the opportunity to practice these skills and be with a fun group of people.”

“Everyone should experience this opportunity”

“This is an experience you will never forget! I am so grateful we got the opportunity to go!”

“All the workers were all very positive and I overall had a great experience and glad I got the opportunity to come”

This would not have been possible without the help of generous donors in our community.

We are so blessed to have had this opportunity and will continue to spread our message “Check Yourself Before You Wreck Yourself”
