To prevent overdoses and promote safety in Kalkaska County, the Live Well Kalkaska Substance-Free Coalition has joined forces with organizations like the Northern Michigan Opioid Response Consortium and Harm Reduction Michigan. Together, they are committed to making a lasting impact on the community by ensuring the availability of life-saving resources. One key initiative is the Naloxone Distribution Boxes, which volunteers diligently stock and maintain. To make it easier for community members to access these boxes, the Coalition has created a Google map that lists the exact locations throughout Kalkaska County. The map includes business names, addresses, specific locations of the boxes, and the organization responsible for maintaining each box. In addition, it provides an email address for reporting any issues, such as a box needing replenishment or if a Naloxone kit is used in an overdose response. The Coalition encourages everyone to be respectful of these boxes and the individuals who rely on them. By fostering a community of understanding and support, the Coalition aims not only to save lives but also to create a recovery-friendly environment that benefits all residents of Kalkaska County.
