Opioid Education and Naloxone Training at the Leelanau School

On May 8 we partnered with Dr. David McGreaham, Medical Director for the Northern Michigan Opioid Response Consortium (NMORC), to provide opioid and substance use disorder education and naloxone training to the teachers and students at The Leelanau School. This is a small boarding school that caters to unique learning styles and builds a passion for learning. The 29 students and 7 staff members asked insightful questions that showed they understood how serious misuse of opioids and other substances can be. They practiced the steps in identifying a possible opioid overdose, calling for assistance, administering naloxone and placing people in the recovery position. We provided the school with 60 2-dose boxes of Narcan and some Narcan Rescue kits to be placed around the school grounds where they are easily accessible in case of need. We love sharing information on how people can protect themselves from overdose by being careful about what they ingest, and how to save lives in an emergency!
