Alcona staff Les Thomas worked with small groups of Alcona’s graduating class to teach naloxone distribution to prevent opioid overdose deaths. The sessions were part of a larger life skills day that each student in the Class of 2025 attended that also included budgeting, how to build a professional resume, first aide, and basic food preparation safety. In addition to the naloxone education, Thomas was also one of three instructors that helped the youth make breakfast. Each student was assigned to a group that focused on food safety, cooking temperatures, and hot holding practices. Each group created a part of the breakfast which included eggs, sausage, French toast and a fruit smoothie. The program included volunteers from Alcona EMS, Alpena Twp Fire Department, Alpena Alcona Area Credit Union, Alcona Schools, and MSU Extension.
