Proper Sharps Disposal is Prevention

In April, the Live Well Kalkaska Substance Free Coalition could be found cleaning up a site reported on Facebook in Overheard in Kalkaska. The site had contained syringes which had been improperly disposed. It is unknown if the syringes ended up on this very rural corner accidently or purposely, since a laundry container was found nearby. It is recommended that a laundry container be used for properly disposing of used sharps, when a sharps container is not available. Proper disposal reduces the risk of the spread of certain communicable diseases and injuries. Not everyone knows where to bring their sharps for safe disposal. In Kalkaska, you can properly dispose of sharps at the next Kalkaska Medical Center Sharps Disposal Day on June 6 from 8:30 AM – 10:30 AM. For more information, visitmunsonhealthcare.org/Kalkaska-sharps-disposal. You can also take back sharps to the District Health Department # 10 Monday through Friday, from 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM in Kalkaska.
