Red Ribbon Event at Alcona High Celebrates a Pledge for a Substance Free Lifestyle

In observance of Red Ribbon Week, the Alcona Tigers and Posen Vikings Volleyball squads teamed up to recognize the importance of a substance free lifestyle during their league match in Alcona.  Players, coaches, event staff, and officials were all given commemorative t-shirts to celebrate Red Ribbon Week, nationally observed during the final week of October each year.  Students Leading Students (SLS) members gave away additional shirts to those attending the event, as well as had students, parents, and staff sign the pledge banner - with youth pledging to be substance free and adults pledging to help them in that goal.  Over 100 shirts were given away to the nearly 200 people in attendance.  The SLS chapter at Alcona is planning more pledge events as the winter sports season starts in November.
