Safe Disposal, Safer Community: National Takeback Day in Alcona County

In celebration of National Takeback Day, Up North Prevention staff partnered with the Alcona County Commission on Aging to host a takeback event in Lincoln. The event included a designated collection site, free Narcan distribution, educational materials on drug look-alikes, and a drawing for a medication lock box provided by Up North Prevention. Seniors in attendance received important information on safe medication disposal practices to help prevent groundwater and soil contamination, reduce the risk of theft, and avoid accidental use or abuse of unused prescriptions. The Alcona County Sheriff’s Department also participated, stopping by to collect the discarded medications.
