Students learn to save a life while connecting to English topics in the classroom.

Students in Mrs. Hechlik’s first hour class, ELA for the Real World, learned about emergency first aid with Alcona Schools’ Nurse, Kim Carter and Up North Prevention staff. Prevention Staff provided basic first aid items for students to build their own first aid kit while learning how to care for wounds, how to administer CPR, and how to provide Naloxone to someone in an overdose emergency. Many students indicated that they enjoy outdoor activities and need to know what to do in an emergency situation. This program was part two in a four-part series of presenters, including other outside agencies, such as the Michigan DNR.
