Traverse City West Senior High’s Mental Health Summit took place on March 1; the day consisted of speakers each hour during the school day and resource tables from local organizations during the lunch hours. The Grand Traverse County Drug Free Coalition presented; the presentation began with the students viewing the Predator and Predator documentary. This documentary was created by East Middle School Digital Media Students in 2018 to showcase the opioid crisis in our area. The video was followed by a panel discussion comprised of local experts, including the Chief of Police, the medical community, a mom from the film, people in recovery, and the coalition coordinator, to talk about the connection between substance use disorders and mental health and to answer questions that the students had.
During the lunch hours, the coalition and Up North Prevention had a resource table, where over 1,000 students came through.
